Counselling is a process whereby a person is helped and supported in addressing issues which may have become too difficult or distressing to deal with. Counselling is not about being given advice or being told what to do. The counsellor's role first and foremost is to help the person work through any issues that may be proving troublesome, with the aim of arriving at the person's own way of dealing with the issue(s) concerned. Counselling can help in a wide variety of areas including: Loss and Bereavement, Anxiety, Depression, Low Self-esteem, Relationship Difficulties, Work-related Stress, Trauma, Lack of Confidence / Motivation, Major Life Transitions, Effects of Bullying / Abuse, and many more. Confidentiality All material that is shared in counselling remains strictly confidential unless the practitioner has any reason to suspect that the client may be of potential harm to him / herself or other people, or that such activities are being perpetrated by a third party known to the client. As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, Sharon Hinsull fully abides by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. If you find that counselling meets your needs, the number of sessions you choose to undertake is entirely up to you.
